Synecdoche + Sitios

It was a drill and screws rather than a pen and paper that launched this project. Spontaneously designing the project in real time at real scale as an exploration of what could emerge with the context and materials only readily available was a challenge. It was about material collaboration, reused materials mingled with the standard materials that were brought in to fill the gaps of construction. The work was built in stages sometimes simultaneously and other times in sequence. The form and space took shape by our mood and resources available in real time. Nothing was wasted, the scrap wood from cuts was burned in the fire that kept the bugs away and the light glowing well into the night, quilting remnants filled the voids and gave texture and character to the place. From a collection of reclaimed materials and a modest budget of $650 an artist studio and storage shelter emerged in a simple backyard. A remnant space at the back of the yard was filled with remnant materials orchestrated into something more than the void that existed.
