PLACE
2010 - SCULPTURE
This is the first piece in a series of pieces that explore the locational geometries with a grid that varies in density. The plywood is 1/2 inch thick birch ply and is milled by cnc. The geometry of this piece is taken from the area of Whiting, Indiana. Where I-90 cuts the southern edges and the BP oil refinery widens the density of the squares. To scale each of the small squares represent 500'x500' and the largest squares 1000'x1000'. The grid is not the street grid but instead a study in density of occupation. The largest squares represent the BP oil refinery and the denser portion is the city of Whiting. The overall dimensions of the finished piece are 62"x44" and sits 3" deep from the wall.
Each piece is fabricated and packaged by myself to ensure the best quality. Currently working on new ones for different cities around the world, suggestions of places are always welcome.
